How does Ivy Leaf works?
Ivy, scientifically known as Hedera helix, is a plant belonging to the Araliaceae family. Its leaves contain active ingredients like hederacoside C and alpha-hederin known for their medicinal benefits in treating coughs and respiratory issues.
These compounds activate lung cells, facilitating the removal of excess mucus and liquefying thick, sticky secretions in the respiratory tract. This effect results in easier breathing and may treat conditions like asthma, bronchitis, and chronic pulmonary disease.
Ivy Leaf has also been extensively researched and proven effective for treating acute upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs).
Through analysis of six randomized controlled trials, one controlled clinical trial, and four observational studies, it has been consistently demonstrated as a safe and reliable option for alleviating coughs associated with URTIs and bronchitis.
Across these studies, a faster reduction in cough severity and frequency was reported in three trials among those treated with ivy leaf extract.
Importantly, no serious adverse effects were observed, highlighting its safety profile for use in respiratory health management.
