What Is CoQ10?
Co-Enzyme Q10 (CoQ10), also known as Ubiquinone, is a vitamin-like substance naturally found in almost every cell in the body. Located in the mitochondria, the powerhouses of our cells, the highest concentration of CoQ10 is in the heart and liver.
The level of CoQ10 depletes with age, unhealthy lifestyle and heart conditions. CoQ10 depletion can lead to weak heart, free radicals attack, tiredness, reduced stamina, weakened immune system and headache. Ubiquinone (oxidized form) is essential for CoQ10’s role in cellular energy metabolism. Ubiquinol (reduced form) is essential for the antioxidant function of CoQ10. It makes no difference between ubiquinone and ubiquinol. CoQ10 shifts back and forth between its ubiquinone and its ubiquinol form in a continuous cycle inside the body.
